The AIEEE 2006, comprising a single paper had 40 questions in Mathematics and 55 questions each in Physics and Chemistry, making it a total of 150 questions to be attempted in 180 minutes. The overall level of difficulty was lower than last year's paper.Maximum marks for each subject was 180, and the total was 540 marks.

As compared to the AIEEE 2005, this year's paper saw a reduction in the number of difficult questions from 25% last year to about 15% this year. About 40% of the questions were fairly simple or straightforward requiring direct use of formula/result or law. The balance questions were of moderate level of difficulty.

AIEEE 2006 was easier than AIEEE 2005, but was certainly not a cakewalk. A student getting between 200 and 220 marks overall can expect a national rank of about 10000 or so, which of course is decent enough for getting a seat at a reasonably good college.
